with UCLA team (Linda Fu, Saji Matuk, Ian Ream, Monica Ream, Erin Smith, Jeanne Legier Stahl)
and Morphosis Architects (Thom Mayne, Brandon Welling, Andrea Manning, Patrick Dunn-Baker, Alex Deutschman)
This prefabricated single family home for the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans was designed and constructed for Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation by a seven-member UCLA student design team in conjunction with instructor Thom Mayne and Morphosis. The affordable, LEED Platinum rated home is designed to float should the area suffer another catastrophic flood event and is part of a larger region-wide development plan. A wide-ranging study of prefabrication techniques led us to a method of a unitized buoyant chassis with embedded electrical and plumbing systems to which the panelized SIPS wall and roof panels attach. Once arriving on site, the home can be fully assembled in as little as one week.
