In this Request For Proposals from the City of Santa Monica for affordable prefabricated housing, our goal was to balance affordability, design quality, and sustainability. Touraine Richmond Architects worked with Skyline Corporation, strategically modifying existing models through selective redesign, identifying specific materials and construction processes already in place. Drawing upon the iconic shape of a pitched roof home and reconsidered in a series of recent projects by MVRDV, Herzog & de Meuron, and Sou Fujimoto, we simplified the material and spatial palette and clad it in such a way as to create a materially monolithic object.

Personal responsibilities: establishing partnership with manufacturer, material and processes research, development of prefabricated types, phasing, renderings, site plans
