CREST
2011 - Santa Monica, CA
with Touraine Richmond Architects
This tenant improvement for the City of Santa Monica's CREST youth sports and education administration office focused on opening the office to the community while renovating the interior of the mid-century building in a highly cost-effective manner. The sliding polycarbonate "barcode" wall activates the space and permits private conversations between administrators, staff, and parents without blocking ambient light. The remainder of the interior is a large open space with desks for staff and a waiting area with kiosks for parents, achieved by removing an existing partition wall. Also, a large soffit was removed from underneath the clerestory window and replaced with a fabric duct, allowing more natural light to enter the space and allowing access to the operable clerestory windows.
